OUR CALLING

Live For Hymn has one goal: to change the focus of the Gospel or Christian singer, music minister, worship leader, sacred recording artist and church musician from the music industry to music ministry. This shift of focus aims to move the mindset of the musician from one of pleasing people to pleasing God. Although naturally, there is a desire in a sacred musician to cater to an audience of congregants or fans, Live For Hymn wants to realign the focus of the Christian music maker to pleasing an Audience of One.

For many years now - since secular record labels launched Gospel and Christian imprints - the world’s methods and mindsets have infiltrated sacred music. What used to be centered around sharing the Gospel through song has now become a multi-billion dollar business. As that change occurred, so did the goals and aspirations of many Christian music creators. Streams and sales became more important than souls and spirit, and seeking and nurturing a truly committed relationship with Christ was usurped by doing what’s deemed necessary to further a musical career. Many who came into the industry with pure hearts and clean hands found out that in order to attain the success they’ve dreamed of, there was a price to pay. For countless artists, payment began with occasional compromising behavior which ultimately led to unholy living. The industry mindset quickly became about performance and positioning instead of heart posture. With the recent revelations of sinful behavior by top Gospel and Christian artists, the covers have been pulled off. Fans have noticed that once the stage lights dim and the mics are turned off, some who were leading worship were not living the lives they were singing about.

God’s heart is grieved over what is happening in the lives of His psalmists. He longs for those He has called to the ministry of music to reflect His Son. His desire is that we live according to the precious words He has given us in the Holy Bible. His desire is that none would perish and that His music creators sing His songs in His presence, both on Earth and in Heaven.

With that being said, Live for Hymn's creation is not about condemnation or humiliation. It’s not about shaming anyone. The Bible is clear that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God; every human being is in desperate need of the grace of God. But just as the woman at the well was confronted by Jesus about her lifestyle choices and yet left with an excitement to tell everyone she knew about the Savior, the goal of Live For Hymn is to help His music ministers address spiritual challenges and possible moral failings - in a sensitive and compassionate manner - with the hope that many exposed to this ministry will be inspired to follow the example Christ lived.

It’s with these thoughts in mind that Live For Hymn has been created. The impetus for this ministry is to move the hearts of faith-based music creators back to the heart of God. Similar to the original call of God’s singers and instrumentalists, the Levites, recounted in the Old Testament, Live For Hymn also aims to bring a life of consecration and reverence back to the church’s minister of music, worship leader, choir member and church musician. Led by scriptural themes and prayerful guidance, Live For Hymn desires that God’s music creators seek the Lord’s heart first. We are aware that many music ministers have music industry dreams and aspirations, and some of those dreams may even be God-given. But our hope is that these blessed souls refrain from seeking awards “down here”, understanding that the ultimate reward, a “well done” from God, is the true reward.

Using an anecdotal and practical approach - not a fire and brimstone one - Live For Hymn reconnects the artist with the Lover of their soul and the Giver of the musical gift through inspirational and biblical-centered content. It seeks to eradicate the music business mindset and replace it with a music ministry one. Using hymns, psalms and spiritual songs as an integral part of heart and musical realignment back to ministry, Live For Hymn is believing and preparing for a dynamic shift - including industry-wide repentance - in both the Gospel and Christian music industries.

Live For Hymn, through four components - writing, teaching, consulting and singing - focuses on education and re-education of the psalmist and minstrel providing integrity-driven ways of creating and propelling their music ministry. All components help artists and those called to music ministry understand the biblical way to approach their ministries. Live For Hymn provides God’s music makers with a clear definition of music ministry and how it differs dramatically from the music industry. In addition, it helps artists understand the ways of the music industry and how - for Christian and Gospel artists - many of those ways are contradictory to scripture. It reminds music makers that the calling of God requires a surrendered life and willful obedience; these components - not knowing the right people or rubbing the right elbows - are the door openers to godly success in music ministry. Live For Hymn shows psalmists and minstrels that God has a better way, the Kingdom way.
